Hamilton Academical WFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Danny Glackin as Head Coach and Toni Harkness as Assistant.
The move will see a large focus on our Under 16 and Under 19 teams working closer together to produce the next big SWPL stars for the Club.
Danny said:
“It is a real honour to be appointed and I am very much looking forward to working with Toni and getting started.
“It is our duty to develop these players as best we can and prepare them for adult football. Hamilton have a long history of producing top players and we want to continue that tradition.
“ We have a talented group of players already but we want to build on that foundation from the off and become even better, even more competitive and push our best into the 1st Team.
“For those who want it, opportunity is here with a top flight club and myself and Toni will give players that chance to impress.”
Toni joins the club after a spell at Glasgow Women, is currently sitting her UEFA B Licence, and has experience in the SWPL as a player:
“I’ve been there and done it in my playing days and that experience is something I can share with our players.
“I know how hard you have to work and have to push yourself to play and succeed in SWPL football.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for players to come to Hamilton to have a pathway to progress to the top end of the game”.
Commenting on the new launch, Manager Gary Doctor said:
“We have had a very successful Academy over the years but even with that success, we need to look at things every couple of years and make changes in infrastructure to ensure we continue to compete.
“I want to see players develop through our pathway and play at 1st Team level. The challenge is set for those who want to work hard and show the quality to play at the 1st Team.
“The Under 19 and Under 16 National Performance Leagues are a key proving ground for players to hone their skills and develop”.
1st Team Assistant Manager Robert Watson and Head of Academy Lynsey Hogg will support Danny and Toni in the short term with training and matches.
The previous coach Lee Gallagher departs after 2 years with our Under 19s and guiding them through the incredibly difficult period in 2020.
We thank Lee for all his efforts and wish him well in the future.
